Condemnation Explodes as Trump's Post on Director Rob Reiner Spurs Fierce Rebuke

Figures from both sides of the political spectrum and the entertainment world are uniting to condemn former President Donald Trump for his comments in the wake of the tragic passing of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Online Post

After the couple were found dead at their Brentwood home, Trump posted on his platform to describe the late director as "anguished and suffering". The post, he asserted Reiner's death was "due to the hostility he provoked others through his enormous, unyielding, and untreatable affliction with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, contrasting Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Detention

Police have since announced the detention of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in relation to the case. It is reported his bond was set at a significant sum.

A Wave of Criticism from Public Figures

The response to Trump's words was swift and harsh.

This is a vile and vile comment,” remarked actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a friend, also criticized the statements. She referenced prior comments from Trump about the killing of an activist, demanding, "Do you have no shame? Can you get any worse?"

The state of California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly stated, "This is a disturbed man."

Mirroring this sentiment, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a contemptible piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just crossed a line. Now saying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own murder because they opposed him. So sick."

Criticism from His Own Party

Some Republican elected officials also voiced disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the event was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or political enemies". She also mentioned struggles with substance abuse and psychological well-being some families face.

Fellow GOP congressman, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disgraceful" considering the circumstances. He openly challenged members in his political party to justify the comments.

Reiner's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal critic of Donald Trump. In a past conversation, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also warned about the dangers of autocracy should Trump be reelected to power.

"We see authoritarianism on the rise around the world," Reiner said. "If we crumble, there’s a danger that democracy collapse around the world."

Regardless of his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously shown "complete revulsion" and condemned violence for political ends without reservation following the killing of a different individual.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Providing a layer of past irony, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who captured the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously shared the story of the session, noting Trump's request for "special hairspray" while being photographed on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
