Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
