The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a major honors show nears, you'll find an outcry for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often small games, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier game development, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
