Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial World Series after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Down 3-1, the star outfielder smashed a three-run home run in the seventh, propelling the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, Canada," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."

George Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, making him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player in the world that I'd choose in that spot besides him with his post-season brilliance," said Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's going to sting" in the wake of his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their work in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of the series," he remarked.

Toronto won the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
