Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Attacked Guard Members to the Presidential Residence

President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.

He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting

US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Memorials across the state have been held in their honor.

White House Call

The president said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump told journalists. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Support

Mourners came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in the capital.

Paying Tribute to Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to assist people.”

Memorial arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Actions and Government Revisions

Officials have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy prompted the administration to pause refugee claims and cease providing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had fortitude,” Morrisey told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
